Recently on May 22, 2021, the Nyiragongo volcano in the Democratic Republic of Congo erupted. Hundreds of thousands of people experienced the aftershocks, including contaminated water and structural damage. The destruction of water infrastructure means 500,000 people now lack access to a safe water supply.

Therefore, after all these aftershocks the Virunga Foundation has ease the opening of the tourism industry in the park such that the great apes and the human’s life are settled. Therefore, below you will find the detailed package and it always departs Goma Airport on Fridays at 14: 00hr to the Virunga National Park and it always start with the relaxing holiday at the shores of the Lake Kivu and staying at the Eco-friendly Tchegera Islands Tented Camp that is suitably set at the shores of the Lake offering clear view of the water and skies. Listen to the interesting songs of the birds breeding at the banks of the Lake. Day1: Friday: 2021 – Nairobi – Goma, Congo

Flying in on Jambo Jet, land in Goma on every Friday at 12:40 where you will be assisted through the airport by our team and shown to your car, which will take you to Tchegera Island Retreat on Lake Kivu, giving you the chance to unwind after a week at work and prepare for the weekend’s adventure. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy the tranquility of Lake Kivu and its myriad of bird species. Activities on the island include kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling. Dinner and overnight stay at Tchegera Tented Camp. Meal plan: H/B

Day2: Saturday: 2021 – Tchegera Retreat – Kibumba Tented Camp

You’ll be taken to the Virunga National Park office in Goma to collect your permits for the upcoming gorilla trek. You’ll then head into the Park to Kibumba Tented Camp on the edge of the Gorilla Sector, where you can settle into your accommodation and enjoy an evening briefing on the gorillas of Virunga with our community ranger Papa Augustin. Dinner and overnight stay at Kibumba Tented Camp. Meal plan: F/B

Day3: Sunday: 2021 – Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, trekkers will head down the hill to meet their Ranger guides and have a briefing before the gorilla trek. Treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family group, you will make your way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching. Dinner and overnight stay at Kibumba Tented Camp. Meal plan: F/B

Day4: Monday: 2021 – Kibumba – Goma – Nairobi

After breakfast, you will be transported back to Goma Airport on time to catch the return flight to Nairobi. End of services!
